Gamma Cameras - $398,746

Gamma Cameras are advanced medical imaging tools used in nuclear medicine. They detect small amounts of radiation from safe, medial tracers placed in the body to create detailed pictures of organs and tissues. These cameras make it possible to see how the body is working, not just what it looks like, and are essential for procedures like heart, bone, and cancer scans. As the only full-service nuclear medicine program in the region, Heath Sciences North relies on this technology to provide more than 6,000 lifesaving scans per year.

6 Dialysis Chairs - $54,960

Dialysis is a treatment that filters the blood and removes liquid using a machine when the kidneys lose 85 to 90 per cent of proper function. The length of dialysis treatment depends on a number of factors, but a typical treatment lasts approximately four hours and is done three times per week.

“This purchase is a big deal for dialysis patients all over Northeastern Ontario. In Sudbury, the chairs will be used 12 hours a day, six days a week, but this also allows us to keep our six satellite dialysis clinics in outlying communities with functioning patient chairs. Many patients stay on a dialysis program three times a week for the rest of their lives, so ensuring safe and comfortable chairs is a priority for us.” – Steffany Bourque, Supervisor, Outpatient Programs and Satellites, Nephrology Department

Critical Care Ventilators - $200,000

Mechanical ventilation is a form of life support. A mechanical ventilator delivers high concentration of oxygen into the lungs and takes over the work of breathing when a person is not able to breathe enough on their own. These ventilators equip the Critical Care Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with the technology needed to care for patients from across the Northeast, keeping them close to home.

Funding grants for the groundbreaking research of Health Sciences North Research Institute’s Tumour Biologists and Clinical Trials Researchers

“Hana” surgical table that is designed for use in the anterior hip replacement procedure to allow better access to the operation site for surgeons, and quicker recovery for patients

Investing in Future Healthcare Needs

After lottery operating expenses, a tremendous $7 Million goes directly to future investments to make HSN exceptional:

Planned Future Investments:

$7 Million

secured in a restricted fund for future capital renovation projects, bolstering pediatric care, mental health services, and acute patient care, benefiting vulnerable populations like seniors, children, and those facing mental health and addiction challenges

A Closer Look at the Breakdown of $78 Million in Total Ticket Sales to Net Proceeds:

50% - Over 39 million has been awarded to HSN 50/50 Jackpot winners

15% - $12 million goes towards expenses to successfully host the 50/50 lottery

10% are fixed costs, which include: lottery service (service which generates tickets, manages the website, and provides access to the draw software and customer service platform), payment processing and bank fees and early bird prizes
5% are marketing-related costs to grow the program and ensure the program continues to operate as a successful initiative

35% - Over $27 Million goes back to Health Sciences North to support the highest priority needs including future capital renovation projects

Please note: that the lottery license agreement, as stipulated by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, does not provide for any of the net proceeds generated to be spent on salaries or administrative allocations. No money generated by the Lottery pays for administrative wages.
